Hearty Bread Casserole

3 beef tomatoes
250 g bread (e.g. ciabatta or brown bread)
Fat for the mold
2 cups of crème fraîche
5 tbsp milk
3 eggs (size M)
Salt
Pepper
0.25g bunch basil

Instructions
- Clean and wash the tomatoes and cut into slices. Cut the bread into slices as well. Grease a baking dish and layer the tomatoes and bread alternately. Preheat the oven to 200°C top/bottom heat.
- Whisk together the crème fraîche, milk and eggs. Season with salt and pepper and pour over the casserole. Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes until the eggs are cooked. Wash the basil, shake dry and chop. Sprinkle the basil over the finished casserole.
Food Waste Tip
If you have some Parmesan or grated cheese left over, you can sprinkle it on the casserole. Small cubes of ham or salami also work well.
This recipe is perfect for using up leftover stale bread or rolls.
